Imagine This

I see another hawk
Today in the park.
I stop to watch it
Sit in the Catalpa tree
And wait for it to do something interesting.
No one else seems to notice or care
And I don’t rightly understand.
Normally I would write of loneliness here,
But instead I imagine this:
A girl in a red scarf
Pushing a double stroller down the street,
Thinks of me.
She stops her singing for a moment
To plant some fennel seeds
In the left ventricle
Of my heart.
